Eliza Gatfield

As I'm looking at these images and wishing I was in this breakfast room staring at the boats in the harbor....

I realized that I need a little break...

This home belongs to Eliza Gatfield and I love her relaxed style...

The different fabrics she used in the drapes
and the patterns in the pillows coordinate so well...

I would love to wake up to this view...

I'm craving for a little time on an island somewhere... far... far... away...

I don't have any plans but I'm going to try to have some down time...

OK..who am I trying to kid?

Do you really think I'm going to be able to relax at home?

We don't have anything planned this summer

and we usually fly by the seat of our pants...

so who knows where and when we will go away...

I wish Eliza would invite me to stay in her beautiful home....

wouldn't that be nice?

How would you decorate your home away from home?
Would you have a theme or would it be a relaxed style...like Eliza's...

I bet you'll never guess...but I'm taking a little blogging break...
I'll be back in a week or so....

Making a Beautiful Bed

Luis Bustamante

There is an art to making a bed and it looking  a certain way...

I have been gathering ideas to redo my own bedroom...
and I actually started redoing it over 6 months ago and I had to put it on hold...

Do you like a lot of pillows on your bed?

Barclay Butera

I do...
I guess I'm a pillow hoarder...the more pillows the better...

Do you prefer a comforter or a bed spread....I prefer a comforter...

Mixing Patterns in Decor

Carmen Lopez

Have you ever thrown fabrics together trying to be creative and wondered why it didn't work?

I was taught as an artist to look at patterns, color and balance.
For some reason it has always come natural to me...

Carmen Lopez
What do you notice about the pattern in this design?

The shutters, the chairs and the wallpaper have a similar line or shape....

The chair fabric softens the hard edges and the solid orange is a resting place for the eye...

every room needs a resting place...
an area with no pattern...

Look how every color and print plays on each other....
the blue, orange and printed fabrics are repeated through out the room to create balance...

My eye naturally started at the left gold sofa corner, then to the chairs, then the orange sofa and then around to the the coffee table....

it's like the designer created a visual path through color to see the room and create interest....

Debra French

Look at the pillows...
the shape of the flower is the same but a different scale...
they balance each other... they don't fight each other...
It wouldn't work together if they were the same size.

Matchbox Magazine

John Robshaws living room and home is a fun example ...
he started as an artist and became an interior designer and fabric designer...

look how he plays with shapes...
the circles and the diamond shapes are repeated in his fabrics and the side table ....

the stripe rug adds an element that calms the patterns down..

The circle pattern is repeated on the wall.....
it looks like he designed his home as if he is going to paint the room on a canvas...

Debra French

Start noticing how everything in nature has a pattern...a green leaf, a butterfly etc ....

it helps to look at magazines or decor on-line and notice the pattern and the shapes in them and how they use color...

also....John Robshaw has a new collection with Cisco Brothers ...

And....my computer broke...It's being fixed and if I don't post on schedule you'll know why...Shoot....so frustrating!

Eloquence Inc....

Eloquence just received a new vintage container....full of gorgeous pieces.

They have old weathered sets of shutters and doors
to add character and texture to interiors....

Originally from gorgeous villas in the Mediterranean, these shutters
are layered in distressed shades of soft creams, beige and greens....

They have lots of gorgeous new seating
along with armoires, vanities, and petite side tables.

The light green shades of blue gray patina on this chest is so pretty....I would take this in a heart beat!

Wouldn't these be beautiful in someones home....OK...maybe mine!

Their vintage pieces are one of a kind..

After seeing their new items.... I'm tempted to paint a buffet table in my living room in a light patina blue.....

To see their web-site go here.....

have a great weekend, Julie

Pillows for a Sofa.....Design

Do you remember a couple of posts ago...

I was talking about how I wanted my client to
re-paint her freshly painted beige living room to a silver blue....

you can read about it here......

Well....shes going to re-paint!

I'm so excited it is going to look beautiful with her fabric and her Loloi rug.....

This is close to the color we are using...
Benjamin Moore Silver blue.

The floral fabric is by Lee Jofa and I'm going to have pillows made for the sofa...

the other is a Ralph Lauren and it is going on the chairs....

The fabric on the left is going on the sofa and the Kravet fabric is going on a pillow....

The Vervain fabric will be made in to two pillows for the sofa....

and the zebra fabric I love...but I'm not sure where we can use it yet.......

The chairs are from Noir....
and will be recovered in a Ralph Lauren fabric....

The Ralph Lauren fabric on the right will go on the chairs...

We are not using this fabric....

it's a little busy...

but this is the style of the sofa...

the fabric will be a soft linen and there will be

only one cushion across.. instead of two......

I love, love the fabrics were using and the soft palette.....
my client has very sophisticated taste...

I'm now looking for a coffee table and side tables.....

as soon as I find them I will show you....

thanks for stopping by..
Julie
