Sally Wheat, Annie Downing and Pam Pierce....

Designer Sally Wheat isn't afraid of trying something new.....
I love that about her style.....

Even though she has used contemporary elements in her home....
she has left clues of her old style, like those great antique wood doors...
which were in her home before she redecorated..

The photographer Kate Lesueur who shot these images for Sally and Annie Downing has a great eye.....

So... do you know where I'm going here....

I'm on a roll.....
if you read my last post....

you know exactly where I'm going with this post....

the use of old with new....

A Lucite table mixed with those old wood shutters....

the shabby chic generation would call them chippy......
and now patina...

but...
 whatever there called.....

I love the look

Annie Downing designed this space....
yep...

she has talent!

This shot is gorgeous....
Annie used art deco lamps sitting on an old
 vintage painted piece....

and those doors!

The mix of  contemporary art...
 a vintage table...
and the traditional chandelier...

clearly make this an interesting space...

And you can't forget about Pam Pierce....

who has redecorated her home by adding contemporary pieces to her french style and she has done it brilliantly!

Did I say Brilliantly...

there were a lot of comments when she reveled this new look......

you might not like her new style but she made this work perfectly!

And I do like her old and new style....

I love how she has mixed the Eames table with her french feel....

This is a perfect example....
A mid- century floor lamp mixed with antiques....

 so....
 here comes the so again....

do you think we are going to see this eclectic look more often....

I do believe so....

you have to admit...

we have been seeing the same french chandeliers and linen covered furniture for awhile now...

it's fun to see it with a different spin....

don't get me wrong....

I love linen and those wonderful chandeliers....
and you know which ones I mean...

 but....

it's fun to see artist explore design with a fresh new look...

It keeps it interesting!

Julie

  5. I love the unexpected and mixing things up! So many great textures and points of interest here. I don't think I'll ever get tired of vintage chandeliers and white linen, but I couldn't agree more than you can stay static - you have to mix things up and keep it fresh! XO

  13. Love this look with the contemporary mixed with antiques. Those lamps with the chandelier .. and the patina on that piece is really pretty. I'm looking for a shutter exactly like the one at the top. I like the idea of adding something a little unexpected in a room. Pinning a few of these:) xxleslie

  14. I love blending styles together and think it's a great way to keep from getting bored. I agree with the linen furniture and French chandeliers. I love it, but it's time to mix it up a little.

  15. I especially love the French look with modern. For designers, I think it's great that we're seeing this modern mix like Pam Pierce did. It makes people feel like updating, & it connects with younger people who haven't yet had time or money to collect so many of the timeless pieces relied upon by the more traditional design. Besides, like you said, it just keeps things interesting. My house leans very traditional, but do you know what always gets the most compliments? An oval-back Louis style chair with modern black & cream zebra upholstery. :)

  16. HI Julie,
I love both Sally and Pam's design aesthetic! Everything just works. Probably because I have always had an eclectic, yet beautiful mix, although I still want a white Eames chair; I understand and appreciate the look!

  18. We love the mix of modern and antique as we've done pretty much the same thing in our new living room. We held on to a great 18th century French armoire and a Belgian chest from the late 1800's and have mixed them with lucite and cowhide. A great way to update a space without getting rid of our parents' antiques! Hope you have a wonderful weekend and we're so happy to be back blogging!
