A Visit to Raoul Showrrom

(Juxtaposition Home)

I'm giving up on being consistent with blogging...

Hope you don't mind, but its the season of my life.

I've been working and taking my son to doctors appointments..I also celebrated a wedding anniversary...

I met my husband when I was 18 years old...shoot, we've been married as long as the hills are old!

My son is doing better and improving all the time. He will need another surgery on his arm and we will be seeing the doctor in Sept or Oct.

Here are some of the things I've been up to...

I'm looking for two new chairs for my living room. The two I have are about 25 years old and are looking there age. The sofa in my living room is ivory. I thought this time I would mix it up and use two different fabrics. A solid ivory on the front and a blue fabric on the back.

I love this look from Patina Rentals. I showed it in another post here.

I'm using a French Bergere chair and I don't want it to look to serious. I like my home to be a little playful.

(William McClure, Bill Williams)

I went to Santa Barbara and visited Raoul Fabrics Showroom. They had these lovely hand dyed table linens from Africa that I love. They are not cheap, but they are gorgeous!

They make beautiful pillows...

All of their fabrics are hand blocked and beautiful.

They also had these cute and summery purses!

I went to a stone yard with a client and we bought this Quartzite for her kitchen counter tops.

Boy, I really love the look of Quartzite stone.

My favorite is Marble, but I'm not one that wants to worry about upkeep..it would drive me crazy!

I'll share with you some of the other details about her kitchen another time...still working on some of the design plans.

Thanks for stopping bye!

Old Mission and Lisa Jackson

I took these photos of a mission in Santa Babara last weekend...

I was drawn to the beauty and simplicity of it....

Even though it was built in the seventeen hundreds, the design style felt relevant for today..

Designer, Lisa Jackson's style reminded me of the simplicity of the old missions...

The white plaster walls and natural raw doors were beautiful....

Simple forms can be interesting and make a statement!

Simple things can become art...

The feel of this room looks like it could be a modern version of one of Santa Barbara's missions.....
Simple, natural, lines...
It just needs the old tile pavers ...

Rooms and Gardens

My hubby and I took a drive up the coast to Santa Barbara on Sunday...

It was gorgeous and we had a wonderful time..

We stopped and had lunch at a cute cafe that my husband stops at when he goes biking in S.B. ....

We also visited Rooms and Gardens...

One of my favorite stores.....

I love the style of this store....
it has a casual laid back feel...
They use a lot of natural woods, black and wicker pieces.

I'm a sucker for American flags..

They displayed wicker trays of all sizes....
and used shells and coral as art objects..

I love blue and white ginger jars...
which most of you know by now!

I'm going to cover a couple of my lamp shades with fabric like this one...
Its pretty easy...
the hard part is finding the time!

How do you like my images?

I'm learning how to use a new camera...
They're a little dark and I need a bit more practice...

My hubby gave me some clues on how to hold the camera still so when I push the shutter button it is nice and sharp....

OK, I know that sounds a little blonde...
but my pictures were so blurry......

He told me to hold my arm (that was holding the camera) next to my side almost as if my elbow was being held up by my waist....pull the camera to my eye and press the shutter slowly...

and it worked...try it!

Santa Barbara Design House....

(Mary McDonald, Traditional Home)

The Santa Barbara design House event was a blast.

It was so much fun to meet the designers and reps from different companies.
Not all the designers were there, but we met some wonderful, creative people.
The home was beautiful, the architect, Peter Becker and builder, Phillip Pennestri did an amazing job.

This is the image in Traditional Home that Mary decorated, but the kitchen for the design house the day we attended,
was styled  a little differently.

The Master Bedroom

The Master bedroom was designed by David Phoenix, who is such a talented man!
House Beautiful recognized him as one of Americas top young designers.

He has designed homes for the Kennedy family, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Rob Lowe, among others.

He has a calm manor about himself and he is very humble.
I have admired his work for sometime and now.

The walls were covered with a fabric, Calicut Mineral by Schumacher.

David had the walls padded with a welt around the doors and the crown molding.
 It was beautiful!

Danni is on the right and I'm on the left of David.

There are beautiful french doors in the Master bedroom with sunlight flooding through out the room.
It was so pretty to look out the door from the bed, but due to the afternoon sun I couldn't get a good picture.

The Nursery

This was the cutest nursery designed by Carla Lane.
The wallpaper and fabric is from Lulu DK.

This is Santa Barbara's first design house and I'm sure there will be many more. The home will be open until Oct 7th 2012. You can get tickets here.
Hope you enjoyed looking at this beautiful home.
