Light Stained Woods

Have you noticed the 70s and 80s influence in design....

A lot of Clothes and Sunglasses Ive seen lately remind me of that era...
And the white washed woods in decor..

I'm loving the light washed woods Alessandra Branca used in her vacation home.

It works great with natural woods and a pop of color.

Pecky Cedar wood was popular in the 70s, but it was shown in a brown or natural stain...

It has a lot of texture and personality!

I like the up-dated look!

It also looks great mixed with white painted woods and dark woods...

Notice the floor...
 Pretty huh!

(Curtis Windham)

( Minnie Peters Design)

Dana Wolf used it on the ceiling...

Isn't this a great shot?
Pekie Ceder stained green looks beautiful...

I like when there is a mix of  woods in a room and a mix of stain colors...it gives it interest...

Design is all about balance, color and texture...

When it's done right, a gorgeous room is born!

Sally Wheat, Annie Downing and Pam Pierce....

Designer Sally Wheat isn't afraid of trying something new.....
I love that about her style.....

Even though she has used contemporary elements in her home....
she has left clues of her old style, like those great antique wood doors...
which were in her home before she redecorated..

The photographer Kate Lesueur who shot these images for Sally and Annie Downing has a great eye.....

So... do you know where I'm going here....

I'm on a roll.....
if you read my last post....

you know exactly where I'm going with this post....

the use of old with new....

A Lucite table mixed with those old wood shutters....

the shabby chic generation would call them chippy......
and now patina...

but...
 whatever there called.....

I love the look

Annie Downing designed this space....
yep...

she has talent!

This shot is gorgeous....
Annie used art deco lamps sitting on an old
 vintage painted piece....

and those doors!

The mix of  contemporary art...
 a vintage table...
and the traditional chandelier...

clearly make this an interesting space...

And you can't forget about Pam Pierce....

who has redecorated her home by adding contemporary pieces to her french style and she has done it brilliantly!

Did I say Brilliantly...

there were a lot of comments when she reveled this new look......

you might not like her new style but she made this work perfectly!

And I do like her old and new style....

I love how she has mixed the Eames table with her french feel....

This is a perfect example....
A mid- century floor lamp mixed with antiques....

 so....
 here comes the so again....

do you think we are going to see this eclectic look more often....

I do believe so....

you have to admit...

we have been seeing the same french chandeliers and linen covered furniture for awhile now...

it's fun to see it with a different spin....

don't get me wrong....

I love linen and those wonderful chandeliers....
and you know which ones I mean...

 but....

it's fun to see artist explore design with a fresh new look...

It keeps it interesting!

Betsy Brown and Lindsey Bond Meadows

Photo Don Freeman

I love when I see a room that looks...well like a piece of art...

what I mean by that is..it doesn't look like the typical room...its artsy..

Photo Don Freeman

What do you think makes this room look interesting?

The mix of styles, mid century, French, a little industrial...
or the balance of objects?

Designer Betsey Brown has a way of  bringing everything together...

Photo Don Freeman

Notice how she plays with a traditional frame by coupling it with a contemporary art piece...

she successfully balances the room by
creating a collection of eclectic pieces...

Photo Don Freeman

I love how she adds an element of surprise...

the lamp is the icing on the cake...a contemporary lamp on an industrial table...

notice the curve in the leg of the table mimics the shape of the lamp...

Photo Don Freeman

Lindsey Bond Meadows is another designer that has an interesting way of bringing things together.

I love how she added this contemporary/industrial looking lounge chair with an antique sofa...

Lindsey uses contemporary fabrics to tie the room together...

She creates a balance and gives this space a transitional feel....

Photo Laurey W. Glenn

 mixing it up...love it!

To achieve this look...think out of the box....

straight arm and leg pieces of furniture help balance the few pieces that have more of an antique curve style...

contemporary fabrics on your antique chairs will give it a modern vibe...
try adding organic and simple objects as display...

OK..so...and there's always a so...

have you tried mixing it up in your own home...
and if so...

what did you think?

I hope your inspired as much as I am....
now go try it!

There is an art to making a bed and it looking  a certain way...

I have been gathering ideas to redo my own bedroom...

Trad Home Spring....

Have you seen the Trad Home Spring 2013 magazine........
if you haven't...
you gotta take a look here....
there are so many young talented designers....
and here are some of my favorites...

This first home is designed by Taylor Borsari...
the home is located on Coronado Island in California...
If you have been visiting my blog for a while you know that I'm very fond of this look...

I've been trying to add more and more of this look into my home...

but it takes patience.... cash.... and remember  the hubby and I have been talking about moving into a smaller home in the next couple of years....

it's hard to know what to buy not knowing where we will be....

I love how it looks gathered...and not shopped all at one time..
if that makes any sense..

This room was designed by Julie Goldman...love all the color.....and the navy sofa!

They're saying color is back....whoever they are! Do you think we will be seeing color at Restoration Hardware...
Oh...I hope so...

Here's the same image with out the arrows...

(Heather Garret)

Love the ghost chair...and the wallpaper...

Heather Garrett, designed this home....
I love her choice in a rug for this contemporary home....
it makes it interesting and gives it some pizazz...

talk about pizazz...
do you have any crazy fun plans this Memorial weekend?
We are staying home and visiting with friends...and that sounds so good to me!
Have a great weekend..
Julie

Classic Black and white Decor.

I've had black and white on the brain lately.....
I've been buying black and white clothes, shoes and designing a living room for a client using some beautiful black and white fabric.....
I find it a classic color combo......
It looks wonderful in clothing and decor.

(Mimi Brown)

It doesn't go out of style...

Color looks great with black and white, or  simply go with an absent of color.........but I love when an  animal print is added.........like this belt!

(Daryl Carter)

(Briggs Edward Solomon)

AAAAHHHH

(Designer Jimmy Stanton)
(Lori May Interiors blog)

The art is going to be the focal point in the living room that I'm designing.....

Designed by Bob Brown

The art is the focal point in this room....
the eye isn't distracted by color but it simply gazes at the gallery wall...
it looks classic and sophisticated....
and well balanced...

A good designer has a natural eye for balance...

I'm not sure that can be taught...
I believe it is instinctual...

you either got it or you don't!

(Glamour Magazine)

(Tom Scheerer)

The details and the fabrics create the interest in your room...
I always suggest to my clients.......
buy great fabric for the pillows it will add interest and it will help your home look unique...
don't skimp on the details....
other wise your home looks like everybody
 else s..
it should  represent you and your family.

(Janet Rice)

Try to find accessories that add a little surprise...
it doesn't always have to be expensive...
I like going to flea markets or antique stores to find vintage lamps and those one of a kind items...

(Joy Tribout)

Ok... this could be dark brown and white, but it looks so great that I had to add it to the mix...

This is our fabric for the pillows...the leopard might be an ottoman...
or
I might suggest a black lacquer coffee table or a marble and gold table......

Which table idea do you think you would like?

I like the detail in the drapery that Toby Fairly added and the wallpaper in the wainscoting.

This is the drapery fabric on the right....

(Atmosphere interior design)

There will be a little mustard added to the room....but our walls will be dark and our furniture will be ivory....

This is the sofa we will be using but in an ivory Linen....the wood will be in an ebony.

and this is the chair we will be using....but also in ivory.

Like I said....classic!

(Toni Chi)
