Outside Dining and Vintage Plates

I know a lot of you might be experiencing Fall weather...

Living in southern California, we are still in summer mode...its been in the 80's to 90's this week...

I do love our warm summer nights and being able to have dinner outside with friends....Summer is my favorite time of year!

We went to my friend Shellys, who is also a designer and a fabulous cook.
She had a watermelon salad and it was so good!
 It looked beautiful!

Isn't her table setting gorgeous!

I had this chair recovered for a client of mine and wait to you see the back!

It looks perfect in her cottage looking home.

I added some small vintage plates to another one of my clients dining room walls.

 Its exactly what it needed!

You won't believe where I found this beautiful vintage oil painting?

In a garage thrown in a bunch of trash at an estate sale...

Yes, I believe I scored on this one!

Its signed by the artist, John.

I guess it could of been painted by the home owner.  But, any who, I love it!

And the recipe for this salad is below...

Hope you enjoy it!
(Recipe found in 805 Living)

Thanks for stopping bye,

Julie

Around The Hood

We had a beautiful weekend...it was 78 degrees out, perfect California sunshine!

Most of  you who follow my blog know I love vintage finds...I found this bowl at an estate sale and put it on my coffee table in the living room.

I want to share some of the things that I brought back from Round Top. This rug is one of my favorite things. You can see in the background that I had new curtains made.

I can thank my dog, Sway aka FeFe, for peeing on the last ones....the little stinker!

I had a band of fabric put on the edges...

My new rug has a tad of blue in it.

This rug is a vintage rug that was washed and sanded...Yes, I said sanded down with sand paper!

This style is actually really pretty...I wish I would of bought a couple of them.

I also found these prints and the ones below.

I have always loved pictures of birds and I had to buy two of these for each side of my window in the dining room.

This is an antique French Grape Pod. I loved the color, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet.

A lot of people hang them on the wall and put flowers in them.

I was trying to think of something different.

Any ideas?

My roses were so pretty I had to take a picture of them and show you...

A little up-date..

I was on the mend from pneumonia, but I got a cold from my daughter! I can't quite believe it! Cross your fingers and for those who are religious, please pray this cold doesn't go into my lungs!

I have to many things to do to be sick!

Thanks,
Julie

Coastal up-date

I've been adding those little details to my clients home....I enjoy this part of design....it brings everything together....

My clients wanted a coastal/ beachy look.

I need to buy bigger shells for this basket, but I wanted my clients to get an idea of what it will look like with shells in it...

We are still waiting for art work for this wall....the lamp is by R.L.

This was the dining room before we started the redesign. We kept the chairs and had them painted black...

We added wood floors to this area and took out the wall so it would have a better flow...its almost ready to be photographed...

Thanks for stopping by..

Coffee Table Styling.

I am very excited to be participating

in

Cindy @ Rough Luxe and

Mary Ann @ Classic Casual Home

Project design Series...

They have asked 12 bloggers to join

them in How to Style a coffee table...

Here are some of the bloggers who are

joining in this series...

When I style a coffee table I actually don't think about what I do...
I just play until it feels right..
I really had to put my thoughts together to explain this..

Its about the balance, color and size of objects you place onto the table...a creative vignette can be arranged or styled by following a simple rule of three.
When creating your coffee table arrangement, its important to consider height, scale, and color... try choosing 3 objects or groupings of objects that go together in the room.
If you have something that's to small, place it together with other objects by using a tray or  books like I did in the picture above...

Again, I used three objects on the right and three objects on the left side, even though there are two books and one piece of coral it feels like one object within the three...creating balance and scale.
I always like using coral in my displays...

The larger glass container has larger shells in it...and the smaller one has smaller shells balancing out the three objects to the right...

Triangular composition is created with the coffee table in the foreground and lamp table in the background.
Triangle composition seems to work well in all design.
I hope this all makes sense!

Its hard to see this because of the mirror coffee table, but again 3 objects on the left...the three books and coral acting as one and the objects in the tray...even though there are 3 objects in the tray it becomes one...

I think odd numbers are more interesting...
The rule of three is a guide line that can be bent or broken.

I guess I like using trays

Again I applied the same rule...3 objects on the left...even though the small plate has 3 candles it becomes one object....
The two books with the jar on top also act as one....
But, there are 9 objects on this table...

The rule of three is a simple way to add depth and visual interest to your home....

Rules are made to be broken and sometimes the scale of your arrangements don't always allow you to follow it...
Take pictures of your arrangements, the camera will tell you if its in balance.
I use this tool all the time...

Don't forget to check out the other bloggers...

Coastal Cottage Design

Hi YA All...
You would think that I was from Texas...
Just practicing...it doesn't take much...if I'm around someone with an accent...I'm talk-in like them within 10 minutes...
Its a little embarrassing..

I'm going to Round Top this year to shop for clients and I'm going with girlfriends...
I've been dying to go and I'm very excited to do so....
But, for now I've been shopping for one of my clients getting all those last details ...
Their style is casual and beach-ie...which I love!
I needed a few more pieces of art and the painting above and below were done by my brother.
I'm hoping they will like them.

You can take a peek at there house herehereherehere and here....it might be a little out of order...

( Artist, Jeff Hebner)

We already hung this on the dining room wall and it looks great....

My client loves primitive art so we will be adding a few of these.

We started with this fabric by Ralph Lauren

These lamp shades are from Ballard..aren't they cute?

This one is so darn fun!

The shades will be going on this chandelier...

We bought this one for the entry and it will be installed this week..

The sconce is back ordered and hoping we will get it soon...

Love this floor lamp for the living room, but its back ordered until July

This is another option and the one below..

Hopefully two of these will go in the dining room on the same wall as the bird with blue and white plates...

I'm looking for a pot like this...

I have to finalize a dining room rug and here are a few options..

We bought this blue and white rug for the the living room...
Which one do you like?

On a personal note...

My father died in July and now my mother is on Hospice...
Its been a tough road losing both of my parents so close together.....
I want to thank all of you and my clients for being so patient this last year.
I haven't been able to post as often as I would like.
I will try to be as consistent as I can during this time...
Thanks for your patience!
Julie
