This is Ken's studio.  He bought this house about 8 years ago. It was a total mess when he bought it.  The windows, walls and bookcases were half painted all over the house.  He had one month to add walls, paint and move in.  It has wood ceilings,  wood floors, beautiful windows and the gardens are charming.   Here are some pictures from before and some after we designed it..

Notice the paint splotches on the ceiling. There were splotches of paint all over the house.

We covered up the fireplace to create an area for a portrait.

We just recently updated the studio with new accessories and pillows.

The living room window looks out to the back yard. It has a beautiful garden, rose arbors and a white picket fence.

The ceilings were sanded and sealed.

We  designed Ken's Portraits into our design plan...We wanted Ken's work to be the center focus, but still give the client the feel that she was in a living room.  That way, the client gets an idea of what the portrait will look like in her own home.

Ken's artistic eye captures details of a private moment.

A portrait makes a statement in a room. It can be apart of a design that says" elegance". Like an Art piece that is captured by an artist that makes your home set apart from others.

This portrait was also hand painted with oils to capture an artist's image.

Once in a life time!

Ken  photographed this little girl and hand painted it to be a work of art.

Designer Schuyler Samperton

Los Angeles based designer Schuyler Samperton, is known for her modern classic style.

House Beautiful listed her among Americas top young designers. Her work is like a breath of fresh air. We love how she adds splashes of bright colors.

The contrast of the muted sails with a touch of red gives this vignette interest.

A wall of black and white photos with one pair of framed red baby shoes is like she is sending a message. It starts here and ends there. It looks like the pictures are of family photos.

Pinks and blues set the feel of  this room. Suzani  prints with the bohemian pillows are charming..

The touches of turquoise mixed with the pink make this room beautiful.

We wish we would have had this picture for our bookcase post.  She added all the blue and white jars mixed in with the books.  Brilliant.

The well designed bookcase.

Book cases can be a focal point in a room, but a lot of people have a hard time designing them. Sometimes it is easier if you have a theme. We love this example, because the shells are mixed with books and objects that create a cohesive theme.

John Jacob

Lynn Monday designed a traditional library . We love how she hung a picture in the middle of the bookcase.

Tricia Foley used the bookcases to show off a collection of white stoneware.

The mix of white and brown creates a balance in the room. Very creative how the white vases and books mimic the colors in the room.

You  have got to recognize this famous photo from the movie" Something's Gotta Give".

Photographer  Joanna Maclennan  has a unique style.   She is imaginative and her photography is reflective of their setting. 

 

This living room represents an old European farm home.  The old beams and stone fireplace,the pretty chandelier hanging above the table, all add to this country home.

We would love to put a banquet here with pillows and a table. The stone wall is warm and inviting.

The burlap curtains look like they were added on a whim. They look effortlessly, simple and charming.

We love the iron urns and clocks.

The architecture reflects the old European charm of days gone by.  Joni, at  Cote De Texas,   posted pictures of a  new home that reminds us of this home.  Check it out!

Interior designer- Melissa Rufty

Melissa's design firm is located in New Orleans. She does not have a trademark look, but a creative style that she says she replicates from house to house with an unexpected interpretation all her own.  The mix of bright wall paper and the brown and  white settee create interest and an artistic feel.

Here she mixes traditional with some fun whimsy with her artistic approach to a dinning room.

The entry way she designed has a softer look. I am sure she has tailored her style to suit her client.
