The Helms Bakery....

I had such a fun day....

We all need those days just to laugh and not think about anything serious!

I went to H.D. Buttercup to celebrate my girlfriends birthday....

It's located at the Helms Bakery in L.A...

It was a Bakery that started in the 40s and closed around 1967...

The Helms Bakery truck delivered bread and bakery goods to your door....they would drive up and down So. California neighborhoods selling donuts and bakery goods from their trucks...

I know I'm dating my self big time...

but I loved when the Helms man came to our neighborhood...

They would pull out drawers of fresh donuts to choose from.....

Yum!

Now it's a shopping destination with some interesting shops and places to have lunch....

I could of spent hours at H.D. Buttercups....

It went on and on...

So many interesting things to look at...

I loved this old chair...

It reminded me of something Van Gogh would have painted...

I found this vignette interesting...

The rusty wire baskets and the owl pictures caught my eye...

The chandeliers were really pretty...

the picture doesn't do them justice...

What do you think about these bird pictures?

They could be really fun or really dark depending on what you put with them...

At first I imagined them in a room with splashes of yellow, bright and a colorful decor...

OK, then my brain went to the dark side...
shoot....

couldn't you see them in a haunted house with skeletons...

OK....
I have seen to many scarey movies...

I always find a day with close friends restores my energy and reminds me of the things that are important...

It doesn't matter what we do or where we are....

we always have a good time.

Happy Birthday my friend...

I love you guys!

  6. Sounds like a great time!

I loved the cabinet beneath the wire baskets that I had to take a second look before I noticed anything else in the picture. That is beautiful!

  7. Ok I am really dating myself, but I too remember the helms bakery truck. If you wanted them to stop at your house, you would put a blue sign with a picture of a boats helm in your window! And would you believe that in the Los Angeles school the first field trip for elementary school kids was a trip to the helms bakery!

  8. Julie,
I'm so excited to know the Helms Bakery building houses some really fun shopping. I have two antique pieces that my mom bought years ago, when the bakery converted to an antique warehouse. I'll have to check it out. I really like the bird pictures...I can see how you could imagine them in a dark room, but the prints look "spring" like to me...in the right room.
Have a wonderful rest of your week.

  17. Lol! I can't do the birds (or bugs) in the house;)

Yes, we all need these kinds of days. Life is so crazy it's really important to take time off every now and then and there is nothing like shopping with girlfriends! (husbands hover too much)

Such a fun place to shop! I lived in this area when I was a little girl. I'm sure my mom knows the bakery. I was actually born in Los Angeles.. a long time ago;)

    Have a nice weekend.

  18. Oh…I LOVE places with historic memories! We have a very old building in a fabulous part of downtown Birmingham that was once the Martin Biscuit Co. it has just opened again and I'm dying to go for breakfast! It looks amazing! Loved all of the pics…even the birds…and it did remind me of Tippi Hedren! But then again…I loved The Birds and Alfred Hitchcock! Great post!
