An English design twist in Summerland Calif.

We never grow tired of this style. The English country style with these wonderful pillows that have an ethnic feel. This is a little store in Summerland California that portrays a Santa Barbra style.

Santa Barbra home style reflects the town's atmosphere, comfortable and relaxed. The ocean breezes and the laid back atmosphere reflects the style of design.

The soft colors of blues, a red almost pink tone and tangerine are so pretty.

Now it's Julie's turn to get caught in the picture of the mirror.

Love all these old pots...

Notice the book in the back titled Chintz. We have not seen Chintz fabrics for a while.  Maureen over at Eclectic revisited feels that English country Style is going to make a come back.

.

We love the flare of India printed pillows and the old pine furniture from the 1800s. The old pine furniture is hard to find these days. It's a nice change from the grayed out furniture and still be on the lighter side. Do you think we are going to see English country style make a come back this year?

Thanks for stopping by, Julie and Danni

  5. Looks like a wonderful shop I saw a few things I wouldn't mind bring home. I think because of Downton Abby it might bring a few English things around but I don't see it making a big return. People seem to still be in their neutral period with a shot of color thrown in for a pop.

  7. I could snap up the bergere in the second photo in an instant.

Good question... Will English Country come back? So far, we're not seeing in New England. We're seeing softer patterns, colors and textures all heavily influenced by Shingle Style architecture in the suburbs, while quite contemporary interiors tend to be the "norm" in Boston, especially with the under 40's. We will occasionally do a piece of furniture in a fabric that resembles chintz, but that'a about as close as it gets. However.... I have noticed that the local Barnes and Noble is carrying two English Design magazines, both quite traditional. Maybe they know something we don't...

  9. Beautiful pictures. I would be happy if this style made a comeback but preferably in a less fussy way then before, which is what I think Maureen predicted. x Sharon

  11. I love this post. I haven't been to Summerland in years and although it's a 2 1/2 hour drive I see from this shop that it would be well worth it. As an Anglophile I confess I've kept most of my English accents but Chintz isn't one of them. It began to feel dated to me, even though I still love seeing it, especially on down-stuffed chairs. Thanks for this.

While I hope she is right for the wonderfully comfortable eclectic scope of possibilities - but with not so much chintz!!

  18. Lovely. I think we'll see English country more and more. I think people like pattern and color and might be tiring of all the greige.
