Blue and White Tablescape...

We had some friends over for dinner and my new 

pot was the center of attention until I became 

allergic to the flowers...

Lesson learned..

I will use flowers that don't have a strong smell at 

the dinner table! 

By the way...

I use non smelling candles to...

If they are too scented they can clash with the smell of the food... 

And.... 
you don't want that!

I used my blue and white Spode dishes and every plate was different...


  I like using different patterns of china at my table.....

I find it refreshing and some what rebellious. 

Even the place-mats were different... 


The two mats at the head of the table were different from the four on the side...

This is the view from my dining room...

Don't you think the flowers are beautiful! 

I love this time of year...

Well, any who...

I'm looking for a small table to use with this 

vintage set of chairs....

A friend of mine had the 

pillow made for me in India...

I love it because the pattern is going sideways and she was so sweet to bring it back with her from India...

Like I said...

A little rebellious at times!

Fabrics and Color...

I'm attracted to fabrics that have a calm and  peaceful feel....

My life is so busy that I want to come home, kick off my shoes and feel peaceful...

Its funny how colors effect you....
 Yes,   
its true....

Blues are calming and healing...

Red excites you and gets you going...

Yellow can make you hungry...


Think fast food restaurants! 

They're usually painted in reds and yellows...

Yep...
They want you to eat and go!

I was talking to a woman who was raised in California and had moved to Tahiti with her husband where they raised their family...

She was sharing with me that she had to learn the art of conversation...

When she borrowed something from a neighbor in Tahiti it was custom to sit and chat, have tea and then ask to borrow a hammer or tool of some kind... 
It was rude to borrow and go!

Our American life style is go, go, go...

We sometimes forget to stop and smell the roses... 

When we get home we want our homes to be a sanctuary of peace and a place of comfort... 

But, we also want to have some fun! 

This fabric has blues for a calm feel...
 but, a little red for excitement... 

The more blues you add to it the calmer the feel...

But, if you add more reds, your room is going to have a fun feel... 


Every room in my home has a little blue.....

But, there are different combos of colors in each room....

Dining Room Plans...

I have been working on my dining room for a long time....
When I'm designing for clients its hard to find the time to work on my own home... 
So, its been a process.....
 I found this beautiful vase and it looks perfect in my dining room..

I wish I could get my home decorated in just 6 weeks.... 
Like Linda's One Room Challenge.....

A bunch of designers and bloggers re-decorate a room in just 6 weeks...

Man.....you would have to work around the clock...

I had bought these drapes from IKEA...
We were going to move and I needed something neutral to sell the house....
So, now that we are staying....

I can look for drapery fabric that I really love...  

Did I mention that the dog peed on them!?
Not really happy about that!

The blue and white fabric thrown on top is from Kravet...

I'm not sure I'm sold on it... 

I love this fabric from Schumacher.. 
Maybe pillows for my family room?

Duralee Fabric

I would like to add green into my living room and dining room..
So pretty! 
The fabric is from Duralee...

Remember when I took this on? 

It was exhausting!

This was my 70s furniture before....
outdated!
 I would love to buy something that has more of a contemporary feel.... 

But its not in the stars right now! 

It looks much better, but here is my to do list...

Side chairs have to go...to country. 

New drapes and rods...

The dog made sure of that...not liking the smell of urine!

Pictures for the wall next to the curtains..

New chandelier........

 I would love to add wainscoting or some wood details..
Maybe grass cloth....

I want the side chairs to be on the contemporary side and they need to have fabric on the backs.....

It would help soften the room...

I have some at my husbands studio which after it sells I'm thinking of bringing them home.

I really need to find art work for next to the windows...not digging those little shelves...to boring! 
It really helps to take a picture of your room...
It gives you another perspective.. 
You notice things you didn't before..

A Cottage Side Table

It's gorgeous here today and I love this time of year.
I took Monday off to clean out my house...

I'm not one that's into spring cleaning and scheduling it into my life...but this is a have to do project!
I have two mattresses in my hallway and a mess of other things that will be going to my husband's studio...
It's going up for sell and I have to stage it... 


But, I wanted to share with you some styles that I'm loving....

Joni over at Cote De Texas showed this image on her blog...
I have always loved this shape of a table and I love the floral chintz....

Phoebe Howard uses this shape of table often in her designs, but it's not as rustic..

I would love to add it to a room with this fabric by Thibaut.. 

I'm thinking of where could I use this table!

Love how it looks in Nicky Haslams window..

Light Stained Woods

Have you noticed the 70s and 80s influence in design....

A lot of Clothes and Sunglasses Ive seen lately remind me of that era...
And the white washed woods in decor..

I'm loving the light washed woods Alessandra Branca used in her vacation home.

It works great with natural woods and a pop of color.

Pecky Cedar wood was popular in the 70s, but it was shown in a brown or natural stain...

It has a lot of texture and personality! 

I like the up-dated look!







 

It also looks great mixed with white painted woods and dark woods... 

Notice the floor...
 Pretty huh!

Pekie Ceder stained green looks beautiful...

I like when there is a mix of  woods in a room and a mix of stain colors...it gives it interest...
